OMG the gross negligence and lack of humanity!!
This book is a horror story of a corporation and its legal team gaslighting its female workers as they each mysteriously fall ill and die. They blame it on female nerves and hysteria, ugh can we throw that bucket out – they have been tossing so much of our valid complaints and medical issues into that bucket for centuries.
These women who started at these factories at the age of 15-18 and started getting sick in their early 20s. But Radium can’t hurt you! It’s healthy and can extend your life! Jesus the deterioration of these lively beautiful young ladies that had their whole life ahead of them was grotesque and so hard to read.
The fact that a group of men where trying to consistently delegitimize their claims to continue to hurt their employees by not following safety rules is appalling. I am just so livid with these stupid Company attorneys, I hope they are rotting in hell right now. If you google radium poisoning you will agree with me.
All because they wanted money and not waste money on the radium paint by using a cloth they had to dab it on their lip which caused it to go into their body (honestly the dust and excess got all over them) , then they testified they never told them they could only use their lip.
OMG the frustration!
This book was amazing but also true story historical books can be hard to read. The content was so condensed since there were so many victims of this horrific negligence and they wanted to talk about them all. They each would get their story since they all were getting gaslit, told they were lying, and picked apart by these companies while the radium was eating them from the inside out.

These women are why there is safety in the workplace and safety from hazardous conditions. It only took them 30+ years and too many women to accomplish.

OMG this is why I read fantasy books I am so sad for these people and families! Why does this happen? I read these books through a lense of my own experience and think of my friends and family and put myself in their shoes. I felt my body fall through and disintegrate and my family fall apart at least 50 times in this book in so many different iterations through these women it was excruciating. I will say to my dying breath every life deserves to be lived! Celebrate their lives on Sept 2 at least in Il it’s a holiday.

The last group of women who finally won their case called themselves the Society of the Living Dead. Their bones died in their body before they died.

And what happened to all the consumers that were using the radium products is that why cancer increased? Oh actually they are still cleaning up today from this company. There’s a movie called Radium City since they built a town on top of dump site and the residents started dying of cancer. Disgusting. This shit isn’t a game WTF.

I might try to watch the Netflix show. But I need to go read 10 romance novels to boost my serotonin. Brb.
